Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) are actively preparing providers and organizations for the Version 5010 and ICD-10 transition. The first step is transitioning to Version 5010 transaction standards. This is mandatory and goes into affect January 1, 2012. The ICD-10 transition for diagnosis and inpatient procedure coding does not go into affect until October 1, 2013.
What does this mean for abeo clients?
abeo is taking all the necessary steps to ensure our clients’ will be in compliance with the Version 5010 transition. We are currently in the process of implementing Version 5010 with our EDI partners and expect to be fully operational well before the year-end deadline. The Version 5010 for electronic claims specifications should clear up a number of deficiencies and confusing aspects of Version 4010.
abeo is preparing and will be ready for ICD-10 codes well in advance of the 2013 deadline, however, abeo will wait until after the Version 5010 transition is fully in place to adopt the use of ICD-10 codes. This gives CMS the opportunity to make any adjustments that may be necessary after the launch of Version 5010.
abeoCoder, our CPT, ASA, and ICD coding App, will not be updated to include ICD-10 codes until we near closer to the October 1, 2013 deadline. When ICD-10 codes are ready to launch an update will be sent out to incorporate the new codes.
